Describe your childhood/growing up years (8-13 years old):
Our parents believed that fostering creativity and innovation while we were young is essential; therefore, we did not have a lot of toys like other kids do, instead we had an abundant supply of art materials and mundane things to play with. My personal favourite was camping within the comfort of our own home using blankets and umbrellas. Also, my siblings and I were required to help with household chores, such as cleaning and cooking. We were regulars in the kitchen, and were especially thrilled when it’s time to make polvoron and yema. There was indeed balance between work and play.

Growing up, I was a diligent student and an enthusiastic traveller. I remember exploring different places in the Philippines with my family, having been to destinations both popular and not-so-popular among tourists. Witnessing the beauty of nature in its purest form triggered my concern for the environment, fearing that the selfish and careless ways of us humans would lead to irreparable damage to the Earth.

What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
● Do things with all your heart. Make the most of the opportunities that come your way.
● Dream big and believe in yourself. Never settle for less than what you truly desire.
● Be a lifelong student. Mistakes are acceptable only if you learn from them.

Most memorable moment:
I have an aunt who passed away at the age of 56. It was so sudden that it took me quite a while to accept the fact that I won’t be seeing her again in this lifetime. Her death is memorable to me because it made me realize two things: loved ones are not to be taken for granted, and life is short but it is enough to serve your purpose. Had I known that she didn’t have much time to live, I would have spent more time with her, and would have expressed how grateful I am to have her as my inspiration. She was actually one of the most selfless and generous people I know as she is always ready to lend a helping hand. She often conducts feeding programs and donates goods to the elderly, as well as to children in need. Up until her last breath, despite being very weak and being in so much pain, all she cared about was her family’s welfare. I look up to her for she touched and inspired so many hearts.

Why do you want to be Miss Philippines Earth?
I want to be Miss Philippines Earth 2021 because having a title will help me have a louder voice to influence people and to encourage them to care for the environment. For me, each person can make a difference in this world, but Mother Earth needs someone who has the initiative and burning passion to lead people in utilizing their capabilities. That is what I am here for.

What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
Protect, nurture, and preserve the flora and fauna of the Earth.

The Earth, our dwelling place, used to be a paradise of abundance, harmony, and diversity; however, due to humans’ negligence, conditions started changing. The good news is that it’s not too late to save and to cultivate what is left. I chose this advocacy because I want to make the world an ideal place to live in.
