Describe your childhood/growing up years (8-13 years old):
Since I was a child, I’ve been raised in a broken family. I grew up thinking that was the norm. But in spite of that, I never felt incomplete in any way as my family made sure that I always feel loved and supported in their own ways. I had a deeper understanding and always had a positive outlook towards life even as a child and it shaped me in becoming who I am today. I grew up as this shy, introvert kid, I never liked being in front of many people. I didn’t have that much friends because I got used to just play with my cousins at home. That’s why people considered me as a black swan as they never expected me to do modelling or join any kind of beauty pageant. Now I am the exact opposite of how I was when I was a kid. I’m now ready to try new things and face new beginnings.
What lessons did you learn from your childhood/growing years?
“Give and it will be given back to you.” This is one lesson I learned as a child that I still practice up to now.
Most memorable moment:
My family lives in Cavite and I am studying in manila – living in a dormitory with my friends. Most of the time, I am not able to see my family during the weekends because I had to finish most of my school requirements and there is just no time for me to travel back home. And one memorable moment of mine was when I found out that my grandfather was waiting for me to come home and I wasn’t able to. Not knowing it was his last days. This made me value my relationship with my family and friends even more, and just be kind to the people around me and have a positive impact on their life.
Why do you want to be Miss Philippines Earth?
Miss Philippines Earth perfectly aligns with my values. As someone who is in search for continouos improvement, I just don’t want to improve myself but I also want to take part in our planet’s constant improvement because I believe that a more beautiful earth is possible. I’ve been watching the past Miss Earth competitions & have been impressed with the changes the winners did. And I want to be part of that change & advocacy as well. I believe that with this title, I can be an inspiration to many and we just don’t inspire people by telling them what to do, but we inspire them by showing them how we can start doing things & start creating change ourselves. Instead of looking for hope – we should start creating it.
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
I advocate for sustainable living. It’s about being mindful of the things we have been doing mindlessly for so long, changing the way we do things and creating a significant impact on our planet earth. Minimalism and sustainable living go hand in hand. As I’ve shifted to a minimalist lifestyle, I’ve become more connected to the earth. I believe that sustainable living is achievable, and it’s through education and awareness that people will gain this type of knowledge. So that we can play a more positive role in the Earth’s cycle of life.
What tip can you share to promote eco-tourism in your City or Municipality?
Silang have a cool and comfortable weather which makes it a perfect place to reconnect with nature and meet passionate people. Silang is home to many beautiful restaurants and farms. I would like to promote our City’s eco- tourism by encouraging others to be involved in outdoor activities such as biking, group workouts, gardening and farming by partnering with our City’s local businesses. Not only it will help our Mother Earth but it will also benefit their own well-being. It will not just also connect us with nature but also connect us with other people.
